This streaming version of the DVD by Chuck Duff, founder of Thai Bodywork School of Thai Massage presents a 2-hour therapeutic bodywork sequence using Thai herbal compress.
The DVD covers preparation and use of Thai herbal compress, herbal poultice, or Luk Pra Kob, which has been used in Thailand for hundreds of years as a medicinal treatment for pain, dysfunction and stress. The herbs used in Luk Pra Kob, which are wrapped in cotton cloth and steamed prior to application, have been shown to have anti-inflammatory, analgesic and muscle relaxant properties. In addition, there are benefits to the skin as well as aromatherapeutic properties to the herbs, whose essential oils are released with steam.
This presentation goes well beyond traditional Sen line applications of the herbal compress. The DVD includes a detailed section on how to prepare the poultices. We discuss how to integrate an herbal compress with Thai bodywork, and spend extensive time in the video on therapeutic treatment positions for specific conditions of pain and limitation.
Chuck Duff, who founded Thai Bodywork School of Thai Massage in 2001, is Producer and chief instructor for the highly regarded Thai Bodywork DVD Series. He developed Clinical Thai Bodywork, a modality for treating pain and dysfunction that incorporates Thai treatment approaches with trigger point therapy, and uses herbal compress as an integral aspect. The heat, medicinal properties and broad compression provided by the herbal compress make it ideal for normalizing hyper-irritable areas of muscle tissue, allowing the muscle to stretch and resolve taut bands and trigger points.
Thai Bodywork's training curriculum consists of over 350 hours of therapeutically-oriented coursework, and includes apprenticeship components as well as direct interaction with instructors.
